One of the most thrilling international performance labels - ASPHALT PILOTEN - lands in Berlin and explores with us the public spaces of the City-West in their perfomance TAPE RIOT. | Urban Dance Performances on July 22nd and 23rd at POP KUDAMM and around.

Friday evening, Berlin Kurfürstendamm. A place in motion. People on their way to somewhere, strollers on a shopping trip, friends meeting on their way to the café just around the corner, a couple kissing on the steps in front of the Gedächtniskirche, young skateboarders jumping off the fountain. Each and every one on their own and at the same time all together following an invisible trail to the vibrant sound of the city. Between all this hustle and bustle, a group of dancers moving through the city space. Strange, different, irritating. Two moving bodies that catch our eyes, mesmerizing. What is happening here? Is it all spontaneous or staged? Who is this?

Asphalt Pilots is the label under which artist Anna Anderegg explores public spaces creatively. Key to their art interventions are the movements of bodies in urban space, breaking the daily rhythm of the city and transferring dance forms and shapes, far from any theatrical stage, into the everyday happenings of urban spaces. With her unique sensitivity for people and spaces and her dedication to playful, accidental acts of beauty, Anna Anderegg is taking the “high art” of dance off the institution and out into the streets, making it more open to the people who fill and give life to it.

Anderegg’s urban performances are as much infused with the city as they in turn infuse the city. Surprising happenings involving the audience directly in their performances – whether they realize it or not – and creating space for imagination and reflection on all that embraces us. Right here, right now.

“We are interested in the texture of a bus stop, the smell of a park bench, and the fluidity of a street corner,” this is how Asphalt Pilots describe their approach to a city, to public spaces in which they pop up as surprisingly and suddenly as they disappear again. Spaces with all their architectural dimensions and social interactions that continually fascinate and inspire Anderegg. Asphalt Pilots do not consider dance as a static form, but as a journey that unfolds in space and seduces the spectators into their own dreams. And at the same time, inspire people to engage in a personal dialogue with our everyday environments, confronting us with the questions: What are the norms we follow as we move through our city? How do shapes, colors, sounds change our perception of places? And how do our bodies interact with others and the space around us?

On July 22nd and 23rd Anna Anderegg and Asphalt Pilots will perform in Berlin and explore POP KUDAMM in their performance » TAPE RIOT «. Together with a tape artist, the dancers create associative sceneries of a city, which form a temporary backdrop for their performances, allowing the dancers and audiences to interact with urban space as they find it. The unique and ephemeral scenario is accompanied by a musician who improvises his own musical sample arrangements live using the existing sounds of our urban environment.
